Foursquare check-ins have been integrated into the Facebook Timeline map

It’s now a little bit easier to see all the places you’ve been on Facebook’s Timeline map. More specifically, it’s easier to see where you’ve been while using foursquare.

From now on, whenever you choose to share your foursquare check-in on Facebook, a marker indicating where you are will be added to your personal Facebook map on your Timeline. The same rules will apply to any of your Facebook friends who choose to share their check-ins on Facebook.

Judging by my map, it doesn’t appear as if this feature has made its way to me yet. The only check-ins I see come from Facebook’s app. Hopefully past foursquare check-ins will find themselves in the Timeline as well.

LG Optimus Elite pre-orders sell out with Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile recently began accepting pre-orders for the LG Optimus Elite. Announced last month for Virgin Mobile, the LG Optimus Elite now has an official price tag of $149.99. For those who pre-ordered today, Virgin Mobile promised to deliver the unit tomorrow May 15. That’s a fast lead time for delivery right after the pre-ordering period right? If that got you excited and wanted to pre-order the LG Optimus Elite now, too bad, all slots have already been taken. Virgin Mobile is now saying to check back on May 15 to see if there will be units of the device that become available. If not, you’re best bet in scoring the LG Optimus Elite then is to wait for Virgin Mobile to replenish its supply or check out Sprint which released the device recently. In case you’re wondering why the LG Optimus Elite seems to be pretty hot stuff from Virgin Mobile, that’s because the device features a 3.5-inch display, 4GB internal storage, microSD Card slot, Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread for its OS, 4MP rear-facing camera and support for Google Wallet. Seems like a pretty capable phone for an affordable price, right?

Sparrow for iPhone pushed to version 1.2 with 4 new features

Did you get the Sparrow mail app for your iPhone when it was released recently? If you did, then it’s time to hit the update button on your iPhone as the app is now in version 1.2. The update brings in four new features to this nice alternative mail app for your iPhone. These new features include – improvement in message navigation, specifically allowing you to navigate all your mailbox messages simply by swiping up and down. And when switching from a conversation to another, you’ll see a separator clearly showing your’re swiping to a new conversation. Next, Sparrow also lets you rename, create, delete all your labels and folders straight from within the app. The update also brings in lanscape mode when composing new messages as well as support for 9 languages namely, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Russian, and Chinese. Unfortunately for those waiting for the push notification feature, sorry to tell you folks that Apple denied Sparrow’s request. But the developer promised to integrate this feature as a yearly subscription in a future update.

Remember The Milk updated for the iPhone

Possibly one of the best and most popular to-do apps for iPhone, Remember the Milk has just been updated to version 3.0. Go check out the update, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself looking at a completely redesigned Remember the Milk app.

One of the highlights of the new interface of the iPhone app was adapted from its iPad version. This has something to do with card stacking when interacting with your tasks and notes. This card stack lets you swipe your way through your tasks and notes via gestures. Additionally, the task view now also shows not only the task’s details but any note associated with the task as well. There will also be new icons for quick task actions such as when you’ve completed, postponed or deleted a task. Also, when editing multiple tasks, you can now simply select them by tapping the “Edit” button in a list. You’ll be able to edit the due date, priority, list or tags of multiple tasks at once.

Finally, when you want to quickly complete a new task, you can now do so just by tapping and holding on a task from the list and the “Complete” button will appear. From here you can either tap on the button or slide up to bring out the “Postpone” button instead. Remember the Milk app is available now as a free download from the App Store. To fully appreciate the updated RTM app, watch the video included below.

Facebook makes posts bigger on its mobile apps

You may notice a slight change to how Facebook looks on your mobile device today. A little upgrade has been pushed to the mobile web versions of Facebook that vastly increases the size of posted pictures and all news feed items.

As you can probably tell from the picture to the right, pictures are about three times their normal size in the new update. Multiple photos will be place in a grid format as opposed to being side by side. Facebook has also adjusted the size of news feed posts by expanding them to the edge of the screen.

You can see if the update has made its way to you by checking Facebook on your mobile device of choice.

HTC Sensation 4G scheduled to receive Android 4.0 on May 16

T-Mobile sure has teased its customers a lot with potential Android 4.0 upgrades for their Android phones, but today, we heard an official date for the Sensation 4G.  Starting May 16, one of the better phones on T-Mobile will receive its official upgrade to Android 4.0.  The date was revealed to the public through the Sensation’s official support document page on the T-Mobile website.

The update will be pushed out to anyone running the stock software (therefore, anyone with a rooted phone will not receive the software update).  In order to flash the new software, it is required your phone is at least 50%, but even higher is recommended.  Other than the obvious Android 4.0, the update will bring some new features that are outlined below.

New Features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life
  • Note: HTC Sensation 4G will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update.

Improvements

  • Improved text input and spell checking
  • Improved menu structure

Again, if you own the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile and it is running the stock software without root, then you will want to check for a new software update on Wednesday.  Lastly, the HTC Amaze is expected to receive the same update in the coming weeks.  Unfortunately, T-Mobile’s definition of “in the coming weeks” could mean by late June, so stay tuned for further updates.

Asus offers up official PadFone demo video

Asus has offered up an official demo video for the PadFone tablet smartphone combo device. The video offers a brief look at the features and mentions some goodies such as the fact that it will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. On the smartphone side, you can expect a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED with scratch resistant glass and on the tablet side you will get a 10.1 inch display. Perhaps more important though, Asus is teasing this as a device that will save you the cost of a data plan. More specifically, noting that you can get two devices with one data plan. With that, the Asus PadFone seems like an interesting enough concept but we are still not all that convinced that it will be a success. Not to mention, we are still waiting to see what if any carrier support will be available here in the US market. Anyway, the video comes in at 3 minutes and 58 seconds and should be a good watch for those curious.

LG Spectrum OTA update looks ready to roll-out, will bring Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread

Verizon Wireless has offered up the specifics for an upcoming software update for the LG Spectrum. This update will arrive as software update VS920V6 and bring the handset up to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Basically, no Ice Cream Sandwich just yet. That aside though, the update does look to contain a decent mix of improvements and enhancements.

According to details provided by Verizon, the update will measure in at 127MB in size and could take upwards of 10 to 140 minutes to download and then another 8 to 10 minutes to install. More specifically, the average download times are 16 minutes on 4G LTE, 29 minutes on EVDO or 145 minutes on 1XRTT.

Those with an LG Spectrum can either sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive on their handset and then upgrade from that point or take the pro-active approach and navigate to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Software updates -> Check for Updates.

Amazon has some refurbished Kindle Touch readers available for just $74

We have seen a few offers recently from Amazon that included nicely discounted Kindle Fire readers, but this time we are seeing a deal for the Kindle Touch. This latest offer is on the refurbished Kindle Touch, which Amazon currently has available and priced at $74. The model being sold is the one with Special Offers, which regularly sells for $99. Simply put, if you are willing to go with a refurbished Kindle Touch as opposed to brand new, you can save $25 at the moment. And lastly, for those worried about buying refurbished, Amazon notes that;

“A Certified Refurbished Kindle Touch is a pre-owned Kindle Touch that has been refurbished, tested, and certified to look and work like new.”

And perhaps more important — you still get the same “full one-year limited warranty, just like a brand-new Kindle Touch.”
