The LG Miracle could soon launch on Telus running Windows Phone 7

According to a couple of leaked photos, the LG E740H is expected to launch on Telus in the near future.  The LG E740H will probably launch as the LG Miracle when it comes to market and it looks like a solid mid-range device bordering on high-end.

In terms of specs and features, it sports a single-core 1GHz processor, 4 inch NOVA display, WP7, 8GB of onboard storage, Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS.  In terms of cameras, it contains a 5MP rear facing camera with flash and a front facing camera.  At this time, Telus has been relatively quiet on divulging information on the Miracle, but thanks to a picture of the homescreen, it is customized for Telus.

Essentially, we’re going to have to wait a few weeks until Telus decides to officially announce the LG Miracle, but at least we can be almost certain a WP7 LG smartphone will launch soon on the Canadian carrier.

Is the LG Optimus 3D Max heading towards AT&T?

While we have yet to see anything official coming from LG or AT&T, it looks like another Optimus branded handset will soon be available. The handset is the LG Optimus 3D Max and the details are coming by way of a recent FCC filing. According to the details in the filing, the Optimus 3D Max has been approved with support for AT&T’s 3G network. The handset is sporting a model number of LG-P720h and with that — we are left waiting for something a bit more solid. That being said, we do know that the Optimus 3D Max is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has features to include a 4.3 inch WVGA touchscreen display, dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP 4430 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera that is capable of both 2D and 3D. Instagram for Android is NOT better than the iOS version

After long last, the king of photo filtering apps has finally emerged on Android. Instagram for Android made its way to Google Play today to the surprise of many. I’d understand if you rush to download it as I did, but please know you may find yourself as disappointed as I am.

Instagram for Android was hyped to be superior to the iOS app. Here we were thinking Instagram for Android was going to be built specifically for Android. We thought Android’s design would be taken into consideration when developing this app. Boy were we wrong. After all the months of waiting and teasing, we were given a near exact duplicate of the iOS app. There’s no Android in this.

Check out the pictures below. Can you tell which Instagram app is for iOS and which is for Android?

The image on the left is from iOS. As you can see, both are virtually identical.

Here are some other shortcomings of the Instagram for Android app.

  • No sharing support for Google+ (it’s Android after all)
  • No tilt-shift (that neat blurring effect)
  • Photos must be cropped even if taken in the app
  • Instagram’s “advanced camera” feature is broken

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are honestly much better options out there for Android than Instagram. It’s a shame really.

AmazonWireless loses beta status

We’ve written about plenty of smartphone deals that were offered by AmazonWireless in the past. During those times, the service was still in beta even though it was very hard to tell. Today, AmazonWireless is no longer a beta service. Its full-scale launch includes features such as price guarantees, free apps and two-day shipping.

AmazonWireless is willing to ensure it’s offering the lowest prices out there. If you purchase a device from AmazonWireless and notice a competitor is selling it for less within 14 days, AmazonWireless will credit you the difference. AmazonWireless will also credit you if the store itself lowers prices within 14 days. One catch to this is AmazonWireless does not acknowledge promotional sales, special discounts or going out of business sales as part of the best price guarantee.

AmazonWireless is also harnessing the power of the Amazon Appstore to lure in customers. Anyone that purchases one of 87 Android smartphones will receive $20 worth of premium apps for free. The apps include Doodle Jump, Shazam Encore, Paper Camera, Weatherbug Elite, Frogger, Office Suit Pro and more.

As usual, every purchase comes with free two-day shipping in the United States.

Path updated to version 2.1.1, now includes "enhanced privacy" on Android and iOS

The folks over at Path have recently rolled out an update for the iOS and Android apps. Both mobile versions have gone up to 2.1.1 and this is one that everyone will likely want to download. Or more specifically, those who are into security and privacy. You see, Path 2.1.1 (for iOS and Android) now has enhanced privacy. This added privacy comes in the form of hashed user contact data. This is done so that the data that is collected is also anonymized. The newly anonymized information includes those goodies such as last names, phone numbers and email addresses as well as Twitter and Facebook usernames. In addition, the Android version of Path now includes the ability to press and hold on profile photos to zoom and both the iOS and Android versions also got some unspecified bug fixes. With that, those using Path will be able to grab 2.1.1 from the respective app stores.

Instagram now available for Android

The long wait for those on Android has officially come to an end — Instagram has arrived. Yup, Instagram has arrived for Android and can be found by way of Google Play. The Instagram app has been released as version 1.0.0 and comes with the requirement of Android 2.2 or later for use. Otherwise, the app does just what you will either love or hate — it allows you to easily manipulate, edit and filter your images. Of course, on the flip side of that, Instagram also has a rather nice social side. That said, we are fairly certain that most reading this have already stopped and are on the way to downloading from Google Play however for those who somehow have no clue as to what Instagram is, here are the features that one can expect;

  • 100% free custom designed filters and borders
  • Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and brings out details in your photos you couldn’t see before
  • Instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare (Flickr coming very soon)
  • Interact with friends through giving & receiving likes and comments
  • Works with Android versions 2.2 and above that support OpenGL ES 2
  • Full front & back camera support☆ 100% free custom designed filters and borders
