Nokia 808 PureView goes up for pre-order in the UK

Well, what do you know? That Nokia smartphone called the Nokia 808 PureView, boasting of 41MP camera that we heard about seems to be not pure hype after all. Said device will soon fall in the hands of our friends in the UK as Clove has just made it available for pre-order. Getting a price tag of around £449, the Nokia 808 PureView features a 41MP camera with Xenon Flash, a 4-inch AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD slot and a range of connectivity features including DLNA. Nevermind if it runs on Symbian OS and not really a full smartphone OS, the 41MP camera is perhaps enough reason to grab this phone. That is of course if you’re into mobile photography or your simply fond of taking snapshots using your smartphone. If that’s the case and you’re in the UK, you better place your order now to assure getting one.

HTC One S launching with T-Mobile on April 25th

We saw a bit of detail on the HTC One S with T-Mobile earlier today when they revealed the off-contract pricing. And well, as we had expected to happen, T-Mobile has returned with some additional information. And for those wondering, these are the details you wanted — the price and the release date. So without any further adieu, T-Mobile will have the HTC One S available beginning April 25th. The price will be $199.99 which comes after a $50 mail-in rebate and along with a two-year agreement.

The HTC One S will arrive with perks to include HSPA + 42 connectivity, Beats Audio and 25GB of cloud based storage from DropBox along with access to Amazon Mobile, T-Mobile TV and Where’s My Water? from Disney Mobile. Otherwise, and perhaps more important for some — the One S will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich along with HTC Sense 4. And lastly, hardware features for the handset include a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 16GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel back-side illuminated camera with HTC ImageSense and 1080p HD video recording and a thickness of just 7.95mm.

Buying refurbished, a real-world computer purchase for someone with a budget in mind

The story goes like this, I wanted a specific model MacBook Air, but I also had a pretty tight budget in mind. That being that, the model I want was out of my reach — unless I went refurbished. You think refurbished and you have probably heard stories both good and bad. Of course, its those bad ones that seem to stick in your mind when you are about to drop a little more than a grand on a computer.

Needless to say I decided to go that route and after looking at the current deals on the Apple website I was going to get the model I wanted after all. Just for the record, and also to show what you can do with buying refurbished. The MacBook Air that I wanted was the 13-inch one, not because of the display size but because of the SD card reader and the extra battery life. I was ok with the 64GB SSD, though the 128GB SSD would be a welcomed addition.

Anyway, my budget was $1,200 with tax and any shipping having to be included in that price. That meant the base model 13-inch MBA was out of reach given the starting price of $1,299. It also meant that the higher (of the two) 11-inch MBA models was out of reach. Bottom line, with my budget it was the base model 11-inch MBA or nothing.

And honestly, I could have dealt with the slightly less battery life and purchase an USB SD card adapter and been just fine — but. But that is not what I wanted. Anyway, having decided to go refurbished I was able to find a 13-inch MBA for $1,099 — a $200 savings as compared to the regular price.

Simply put, by shopping refurbished, I was able to get what I wanted and still stay with my budget. And perhaps more important — not settle for something that I would not have been entirely happy with. I then placed the computer in my cart, completed my purchase and waited for delivery. At this point in time I felt pretty good, almost like I cheated a bit. But as happy as I was placing the order, I will admit that I was a bit nervous about what was going to end up being delivered.

Thankfully though, the computer was delivered and everything was fine and dandy. The MBA came in a regular white package (as opposed to the fancy Apple packaging) and still had the regular accessories such as the power cable. Heck, I even got some Apple stickers. All said and done, I have been more than happy with this purchase and will likely go refurbished again.

Some of the points that help me pull the trigger were due to the fact that Apple still offers the same one-year warranty along with the option to purchase the same AppleCare plan if desired. And for those who have yet to order anything refurbished, here are a few images of what you can expect in terms of packaging (based on my experience)…

Facebook musician pages get a Listen button, should make it a bit easier to start listening

If you happen to be browsing around a musician page over on Facebook you may notice something new — a Listen button. Yup, Facebook has added Listen buttons for musician pages, which in theory, should make it a bit easier and a bit quicker for you to begin listening to their music. The Listen button can be found along side the previously available buttons, you know, next to the Like and Message buttons. Anyway, clicking said button will launch your favorite online music service such as MOG or Spotify. For example, those choosing to listen with Spotify will be taken to the artist page where it will begin playing the first track in Top Hits section.
