Bartending: Memoirs of an Apple Genius [Weekend Fun] and more

Bartending: Memoirs of an Apple Genius [Weekend Fun]

It is not all that often we suggest books to read, well, unless they are about zombies and come from someone who does a good amount of the writing using a BlackBerry. But that bit aside, this latest book that I will recommend comes from Stephen Hackett (of 512 Pixels), who was previously an Apple Genius. The book is called Bartending: Memoirs of an Apple Genius and I have to say that it is an excellent read. The book is available in Kindle form, comes priced at $4.99 and contains a nice mix of short stories dealing with the authors experiences while working at the Genius Bar. The book is on the short side and if you read anything like myself — you are going to zip right through it and want more. Needless to say, despite being short and leaving me wanting more — it is well worth the $4.99 purchase price. And lastly, as for that bit about the zombie books, those are still cranking out and Jessica Meigs (the author) recently released another novela with another full-length novel expected this summer.

'Share to Drive' option discovered on a Google developers phone

It appears as if another bit of Google Drive evidence has surfaced. This latest was discovered in a recent Friday App Review session which is put on by the Android Developers Relations team. But that aside, in that app review session was something rather interesting. And also slightly blurry. But that last bit aside, an eagle eye viewer happened to notice something interesting in the list of the Share options — an option to share to Drive. Presumably, that would be Google Drive. That being said, this bit of evidence along with the other recent leaks including the Mac app are making this seem like we could actually see Google Drive announced. Lets just hope it comes sooner rather than later, but not because we cannot wait or cannot live without it, but because this is another one of those long and never ending rumors that needs to come to an end. Still, it seems close now.

Today is the last day to get your AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 for free [Reminder Post]

A short while back we mentioned that you were able to get a Nokia Lumia 900 for free with AT&T. And well, today (April 21st) is the last day that offer will be in effect. For those who needed a reminder, the handset is actually priced at $99.99, however given the issues that required the software update, Nokia was kicking in a $100 credit which could then be used towards your AT&T bill. Granted, that is not exactly free as you still have to shell out $99.99 on the day of purchase, but thankfully the money will come back for your bill.

LG Optimus M+ comes to MetroPCS for cheap

MetroPCS has just released a new affordable phone with the name LG Optimus M+. Said handset sports a 3.5-inch display, an 800MHz CPU, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a 5MP camera with video capture. For its price, the LG Optimus M+ will surely cater to trendsetter and more practical smartphone user. The device has a price tag of $129.99 sans contract. And of course, for its price we naturally didn’t expect it to have 4G LTE capability. Still, the LG Optimus M+ seems like a pretty capable phone and even looks stylish with its slim form factor. The device is the successor of the LG Optimus M which was released earlier in 2012. If you’re planning to get a new Android smartphone, you might want to consider this device.

The White Lumia 900 is already available with some AT&T retail locations

When AT&T originally announced the Lumia 900 it was set to be available in black and cyan with the white model following later in the month. And well, as we found out after, that later in the month really meant April 22nd. But with all that being said, it looks like at least some AT&T retail locations have begun to sell the handset a little bit ahead of schedule. Granted it is only one day ahead, however if you were waiting — you can head over to your local AT&T store today instead of waiting until tomorrow.

Facebook for Android update adds two more icons to your app menu

Whenever an update to the official Facebook app for Android is released, it’s almost a certainty that the public will be outraged. Each update always seems to break something that worked before, but Facebook version 1.9 adds more than it takes away.

After you update the app, you’ll notice there are two additional icons in your app menu for “camera” and “messenger”. Facebook did this to make sharing content easier. The new camera icon lets you take pictures and instantly upload them to Facebook. The icon is going to sit right next to your existing default camera icon.

Facebook also added a messenger icon to your app drawer. Tapping on it will take you straight into your messages in the Facebook app. Facebook also added a feature that lets you know when your friends are online from their desktop or the mobile device.

Some people aren’t going to like these new shortcuts and will demand a change. My advice is to not expect Facebook to change anything anytime soon.
