Love it or hate it, the Beats by Dr. Dre family of products are money makers. The headphones have managed to become fashion symbols and a money pit for people that don’t know any better. Come March 11, The Beats by Dr. Dre Beatbox Portable will be sold exclusively at AT&T for $399. If you were going to place your hand in your palm, now’s the time. You may be wondering what the heck AT&T has to do with portable music devices. We’re pretty sure the upcoming HTC One X (which includes Beats Audio) has something to do with the Beatbox Portable being sold in its stores. The HTC Vivid is also getting an update that will enhance its audio experience with Beats. AT&T will also start selling other Beats products such as over-the-ear and in-ear headphones. The Beatbox Portable will be able to connect to smartphones and other music devices through its included dock connector. It’ll be powered by a computer power supply or with six D-cell batteries. Yes. A 32GB model for $299 of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a great option for those looking to store massive amounts of media on their smartphone, but the price is a bit steep for some consumers. According to a recent rumor, Verizon Wireless is rumored to launch a 16GB identical model of the Galaxy Nexus which will likely sell for $199 on a two year contract. Verizon performed a similar action on the DROID RAZR series by making the RAZR MAXX 32GB for $299 while the DROID RAZR sells for $199, but with 16GB of storage only. The expected launch date for the 16GB Galaxy Nexus is April 5th. In addition, HTC is reportedly gearing up to launch the successor to the HTC DROID Incredible 2 with the DROID Incredible 4G. Previously known as the HTC Fireball, the DROID Incredible 4G is expected to launch on April 26th. While no official specs have been announced, we’re likely going to see a 4.3-4.5 inch display, Android 4.0, 16GB of storage, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE, and hopefully a $199 price tag. If both these rumors turn out to be true, I imagine Verizon will announce the Galaxy Nexus in three weeks or so, but the DROID Incredible 4G announced probably won’t happen for a good month and a half. The unique Asus PadFone Android device will begin shipping in early April. Unfortunately, precise market launches has not yet been revealed, but Asus will announce “pricing details within a few weeks.” This recent information comes from its Google+ page, but we will have to wait until we hear about specific markets and pricing. The Asus Padfone is a notable device for a couple of reasons. At MWC 2012, its full spec list was announced and it features Android 4.0, a Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor, 4.3 inch display, 8MP rear facing camera, 1GB of RAM, and a VGA front facing camera. Now, it can be inserted into a tablet shell with a 10.1 inch display called the PadFone Station. However, the Station can connect with a keyboard making it a fully-functional tablet. Whether you desire to browse through the web and videos on a larger display or increase productivity with a standard QWERTY keyboard, the PadFone aims to be the one device. Again, we will have to wait a couple of weeks before full details are revealed about the launch information and pricing. You can purchase the Roku 2 XD from Roku’s website right now for $69.99 with free shipping. The Roku 2 XD is the second most expensive Roku model. It can access all of Roku’s video channels and play videos with 1080p HD resolution. The only thing that seperates it from the Roku 2 XS is the lack of a motion-controlled remote, a copy of Angry Birds, and ports for an Ethernet cable and USB devices.

It may have been leaked late last year, but Facebook Messenger for Windows has returned in official form. Messenger for Windows is a desktop application that lets Facebook users keep up on everything that’s happening within their social networking life without needing to log-in to Facebook’s website. Facebook has made Messenger for Windows only available for Windows 7. The company is working on Mac, Vista and other OS versions. Facebook says it does not “currently support Windows XP.” Messenger for Windows allows Facebook users to start chats, peruse their news ticker and receive notifications that directly involve them. Other desktop applications such as TweetDeck offers similar features, but there’s really nothing like the official Facebook experience. We can always expect Archos to provide low-cost Android tablets to combat the likes of Samsung and Asus. The line of Arnova G9 line of tablets started off with Honeycomb, but will make the leap to Ice Cream Sandwich this month. Not too long after that happens, Archos is expected to announce and possibly ship a new line of G3 tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. I’ll be the first to admit the Archos family of tablets is getting quite large (and confusing). Bare with me as I explain the new G3 tablets that were uncovered by ArcTablet. ArcTablet has eight pictures of different Arnova G3 models. Their screen sizes vary from 7-inches to 10-inches. Let’s start with the Arnova 7c G3 which is arguably the most technically impressive of the bunch. The Arnova 7c G3 is believed to have a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 7-inch 800×480 display, micro HDMI port and 4GB of internal storage. It also supposedly supports GPS and Bluetooth. The Arnova 7b G3 is nearly identical, but it doesn’t support GPS or Blutooth and has a 1Ghz processor. The other Arnova tablets have screen sizes in 8, 9.7 and 10 inches. The 1GB of RAM, 1Ghz processor and 4GB of storage persists across all models. It looks like the folks over at Square have rolled out something new for the iPad — an updated app dubbed Square Register. And this time, it looks like the app is being pushed towards mom-and-pop style brick and mortar retail stores. “I truly believe POS, as you know it today, is dead,” says Megan Quinn, director of products at Square. “This will bring Square to an entirely new, small-market audience (bricks-and-mortar stores).”
Anyway, the Square Register app details will start off familiar sounding for those who know about Square. In short, you sign up and get a free Square Card Reader and from that point you pay just 2.75 percent per transaction. More to the point with Register though, this will allow merchants to replace their current cash register system. The Square Register app will allow you to add in a custom inventory including names, pictures and prices and perhaps more important — will allow you to quickly take care of your customers. Also important to note, the Square Register will allow the owners to accept both cash and credit cards and comes with no monthly fees and no set-up costs. Well, aside from having to purchase an iPad. But that bit aside, the folks at Square still believe that this could save merchants thousands per year, which is what a traditional point-of-sale system would cost to set-up and maintain over the course of a year. The never ending look forward to what will be coming. Sometimes it seems we in the geek world are always looking towards the next big thing as opposed to enjoying the current thing. Anyway, while many are still waiting and hoping to get Ice Cream Sandwich, we have also begun hearing chatter about not one, but the next two versions of Android. Of course, there was the recent chatter about Jelly Bean. And taking that a step further and it looks like the follow up to that will be Key Lime Pie. Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Google. Instead the details are coming by way of The Verge who are said to have received word from a “reliable source.” Bottom line, Key Lime Pie, or the shortened version of KLP is not even expected or hoped to arrive until sometime in 2013 so we still have a good wait ahead of ourselves. GO Launcher EX has been around for some time now and from what we have seen — it has a rather loyal user base and is quite good in terms on third party launchers. And that being said, it looks like some good news has arrived for those wishing to use GO Launcher on an Android 3.0 Honeycomb device — the arrival of GO Launcher HD. Yup, a tablet focused version of GO Launcher has been unveiled and released. Though, just to offer the word of caution — at the moment, GO Launcher HD is not available by way of the Android Market. In fact, at the moment it is still only available in beta form. Bottom line, this is currently a “beta 2″ offering and while it is described as being a “bit stripped down” at the moment, it does offer Honeycomb users the ability to customize things a bit. While many Android users are still running something in the 2.x range and we have only recently seen Ice Cream Sandwich come available — the chatter of Android 5.0 has already begun. So far the details are fairly scarce however it is looking like Asus may be amongst the first to release Android 5.0 once it comes available. And on top of that, Android 5.0 seems to have been dubbed Jelly Bean.
