Flip To Hand Over Sharing Platform Flipshare To Givit, Users Have 30 Days To Transfer Content

The writing was on the wall for Flip, but when Cisco decided to shutter its rather popular Flip video camera business in April 2011, the company promised a smooth transition for existing users. That said, Givit video sharing service will be integrating with Flipshare, Flip’s online video sharing platform, to store the content that will soon be permanently deleted from Flipshare.

Even though the iPhone completely disrupted Flip’s business, there are still more than 3 million Flip users out there in the world who need a place to store their videos. Givit aims to solve that problem through its cloud service.

The content currently on Flipshare will be permanently deleted 30 days from now, but the service will be functional until December 30. That means any new content uploaded to Flipshare starting now will only have a 30-day lifespan. If you happen to be a Flip user, pay close attention. Here’s what you need to do:

It’s actually really simple. The next time you log in to FlipShare, you should see a link asking if you are ready to transfer your content to Givit. Click that. The rest should be pretty self-explanatory.

FlipShare users will also be pleased to know that Givit has iOS, Android, web, PC and Mac apps and is universally compatible with all video formats and sizes.

Archos Teases G10 XS Tablet With Ultra-Thin Steel Chassis

archos g10 xs

Veteran tablet maker Archos has released a teaser video of a new tablet they’re going to be releasing (we presume) later this year. It’s called the G10 XS (the latest in a series of G tablets) and it has a few differentiating features that may call your name.

As others have noted, the only way for Android tablets to set themselves apart from one another is in design and specs. Archos has found one more that seems to have been mostly neglected: material. Ubergizmo reports that the shell of the G10 series will be made of “paper-thin” steel. Perhaps that’s how they managed to get the thing down to an impressive 7.6mm thick.

Check out the teaser video below.

A little artistic license may have been taken; this isn’t, obviously, a video of a device in real life.

The claim to thinnest tablet out there, of course, is short-lived and doesn’t have much of an effect on user experience past a certain point (do you really need that extra half a millimeter in your bag?) — but Archos isn’t divulging any specs yet. It will, however, ship with Ice Cream Sandwich.

And it also will have a close relationship with a keyboard, with which it will dock or possibly just sync. That puts it on a collision course with another major Android player, Asus, whose Transformer series has had a keyboard as a major feature for some time now.

No availability estimate was given, but the price is said to be between €200 and €400, or around $250-500.

Other models were mentioned as well, including some budget and mid-range items. Liliputing snapped a few pictures of promotional materials, if you’re curious.

Need A New iPad? Here’s How Much Apple Will Shell Out For Your Old One

If you’re looking to get a new iPad and happen to have an old one (and by old, I mean the iPad 2), Apple just made it that much easier.

Apple’s Reuse and Recycling Program has been updated today to reflect the values for various models of the iPad 2. The program offers Apple gift cards in exchange for your old gadgetry, which will hopefully entice you to trade-in instead of lopping your perfectly good components into a land fill. Not only are you saving a few bucks, but you’re being green.

And more importantly, the savings you’ll get by trading in your iPad 2 for a new one are pretty great. According to TNW, these are the trade-in values of all iPad 2 editions:

  • iPad 2 Wifi (16GB) – $205
  • iPad 2 Wifi + 3G (16GB) – $250
  • iPad 2 Wifi (32GB) – $245
  • iPad 2 Wifi + 3G (32GB) – $280
  • iPad 2 Wifi (64GB) – $275
  • iPad 2 Wifi + 3G (64GB) – $320

The worst part about being an Apple fan is that it’s almost impossible to not have the new, new thing. Apple’s Reuse and Recycling program makes that issue a bit easier, as do other services like eBay Instant Sale. The point is: it’s much better to get some cash and reuse components than it is to throw this stuff in the trash, so if you’re ready to trade the old in for the new, head on over to Apple’s trade-in page by clicking here.
