The Verizon (new) iPad will run on the AT&T 3G network

For those who may have purchased a Verizon iPad and are not all that happy with the data plans and/or coverage in your area — it seems as if you will have the option to drop an AT&T SIM in and still get mobile data. The details are coming by way of a MacRumors forum member who did just that, purchased a Verizon iPad Wi-Fi + 4G LTE and switched out the Verizon SIM for an AT&T SIM. Of course, both carriers are using the microSIM cards so they will fit without issue. The compatibility comes by way of the iPad itself due to the compatibility with GSM networks for international roaming purposes. That being said, while those switching a Verizon SIM for an AT&T SIM will still be able to get mobile data, that support does come with a slight catch in that the data will not be 4G LTE. Instead you will be running on AT&T’s 3G network. That said, check out the video below to see this in action.

Tweetbot updated for the iPhone and iPad with both apps going to version 2.1

It looks like the folks over at Tapbots have rolled out an update for Tweetbot, both for the iPhone and iPad versions. Both have gone up to version 2.1 and remain priced at $2.99 (each). Though, on the price — those who have already purchased the app will get this update at no additional cost. The iPhone version requires iOS 4.1 or later for use and the iPad version requires iOS 5.0 or later for use. In terms of the changes, of course we saw the Retina graphics on the iPad, but thankfully that is not the only change to come. Other goodies for the iPad version include the following;

Streaming (when on WiFI with settings to disable it)
The “new tweets” sound is now limited to mentions, DM’s, and new tweets via pull-to-refresh
Double-tapping on the timeline tab button takes you to last read tweet before going to the top
Improvements to the Tweetmarker service
Bug fixes related to direct messages
Version number updated to 2.1 to match iPhone’s version

And for the iPhone version, that changelog reads as follows;

Verizon Wireless details latest software update for the Motorola Droid Pro smartphone

It appears as if Verizon Wireless is about ready to begin rolling out the latest software update for the Motorola Droid Pro. The update has been detailed on the support pages and will bring the handset up to version 4.7.3.XT610. The update will measure in as a 19.9MB file download and according to the time estimates provided by Verizon, it should take about 10 to 20 minutes to download and then another 5 to 8 minutes to install. Those details being mentioned, here is the changelog;

Device Features:
Improved security with DigiNotar security patch.
Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.
Device will no longer lockup or reset after an Over the Air update.
Device will no longer automatically power on after it has been powered off.
Pressing the spacebar key will no longer cause the device to lockup.
Improvements to keyboard backlighting.
Email & Messaging:
Smart Forwarding will no longer cause forwarded messages to remain in the Outbox.
Applications & Widgets:
V CAST Apps is now updated to version 2.00.54.
VZ Navigator is now updated to version 7.2.0.46

And lastly, as with most Android software updates you have two options to consider — sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive on your handset or take the pro-active approach and seek it out. We here at GadgeTell recommend sitting back and waiting, just in case there are issues and the update gets pulled back, however those with not as much patience can always head to Menu -> Settings -> About phone – System Updates to try and get it out.

Instapaper updated, goes to version 4.1 and now requires iOS 5 or later for use

As we have seen over the past day — plenty of iOS apps have been updated to better support the Retina display on the new iPad. And well, some of those apps have been updated mainly with the intent of bringing better support for the display and some have been updated with lots of other goodies worth mentioning. That being said, one of the apps that is now offering that much more is Instapaper. And to begin things — we offer a warning for those not running iOS 5 — the latest build of Instapaper (version 4.1) requires iOS 5 for use. Simply put, if you are running iOS 4.x or earlier you will not be seeing these new features. Now onto the good beginning first with the new iPad support; Instapaper 4.1 has indeed brought the Retina graphics for the new iPad. Otherwise, this latest update also included the following goodies;

Six great new professional fonts designed for long-form reading and maximum legibility.
Full-screen mode for distraction-free reading.
Twilight Sepia: the sunset-based Automatic Dark Mode can now slightly tint the screen with a sepia tone during twilight hours before going to Dark Mode.
New gestures to exit an article and return to the list: swiping to the right when pagination is inactive, or paging beyond the top or bottom when using pagination.

In addition there was also a mention of “many small bug fixes and improvements.” All said and done, Instapaper 4.1 seems like a rather nice update. And lastly, the Instapaper app is universal with support for the iPad and iPhone (iPod touch) and comes with a $4.99 price tag.

Roku software update 4.3 now available for the Roku 2 and Roku LT players

It looks like Roku has officially announced their latest software update. This update is available for the Roku 2 and Roku LT players and will bring the version number up to 4.3. According to the details coming from the folks at Roku, this update centers mostly around Netflix and new app discovery. But that aside, here is the full and complete change log;

Improved video startup performance in Netflix.
Optimized the performance of screen navigation in Netflix.
Fixed an audio-video sync issue with Dolby Digital Plus audio in Netflix.
Improved subtitle and audio settings in Netflix.
Improved HLS streaming format support.
Improved support for multiple gaming remotes during game play.
Improved SSDP device discover support used by mobile applications, including Roku'siPhone app and Android app, to find and connect to Roku players on home networks.
Added a legal disclaimer section in Roku settings.

Lastly, those looking for the update will have two options to consider — sit back and wait for the update to arrive or take the pro-active approach and navigate to Settings -> Software update -> Check now to get it now. And for those who are content to wait, it was noted that the update will be pushed automatically “over the next 48 hours.”

Newest Nexus tablet rumor places the device under $200

This year has seen its fair share of supposed Nexus tablet rumors. One rumor that has been consistent deals with the device’s price. Different sources from supply chains told certain news outlets Google is taking the budget route with this new tablet. The low cost is also the main reason why HTC allegedly didn’t want to take on the task of producing the tablet. As we wait patiently for an official reveal, Android and Me has reason to believe the Nexus tablet will cost somewhere between $149 to $199.

Android and Me’s “senior” supply chain source said the price of the tablet was cut because its quad-core chip was taken out. As a result, the final price was able to be reduced to a much more manageable number.

It was also reported earlier that Asus has been picked to create the Nexus tablet.

It’s also rumored Asus stopped working on the MeMo 370T (or possibly just re-branded it) to take on the Nexus project.

This price seems too good to be true. For the sake of potential Android tablet buyers everywhere, let’s hope the Nexus tablet will deliver excellent performance for a price much less than competitors.
