T-Mobile is still trying to push 4G phones over the iPhone

It’s understandable why T-Mobile wants customers to choose its assortment of Android and Windows Phone devices over bringing in an unlocked iPhone. The carrier would much rather sell phones and service instead of just voice and data plans. T-Mobile’s latest attempt to convince customers to choose 4G devices involves teaching its employees how to leverage T-Mobile’s 4G network over the Edge network iPhone users have to use while on T-Mobile.

In yet another leaked document obtained by Tmo News,  T-Mobile compares the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S to the Galaxy S Blaze 4G, HTC Amaze 4G and the HTC Radar 4G. T-Mobile rates the customer experience with the iPhones as “poor” while the other devices received an “excellent” customer experience rating.

T-Mobile defines the user experience as something that is largely dependent on network speeds. It wants employees to show customers how they can “unleash their handset’s full potential” through T-Mobile’s 4G network. T-Mobile also has a couple employee scripts that point out the “big, beautiful screen” and 4G speeds available on the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Amaze 4G.

These methods may work on some customers, but T-Mobile’s existing customers have no problem jumping ship for an iPhone carrier when their contracts are up.

Of particular importance is less random reboots, quicker charging, incognito web browsing, CMStats onboard, and improved graphics performance.  Needless to say, there are still numerous problems underlying the ICS software on the TouchPad, but future CM9 releases should address those problems as the hardware becomes more compatible with the hacked ICS software.  For example, camera functionality and hardware video acceleration remain missing for the time being.

Lookout Labs releases interactive threat tracking app

Lookout Labs is well known for its Android app that effectively identifies and prevents malware and spyware from infecting devices. Today, the company took things a little further by releasing another app  called Mobile Threat Tracker for Android.

Mobile Threat Tracker doesn’t offer any actual protection, but it does let Lookout toot its own horn a little. The app shows a 3D image of the Earth as thousands of tiny lights decorate the planet like a Christmas tree. The lights represent Lookout blocking a threat to a user.

The app also shows what Lookout considers to be the top three threats currently affecting Android users. RuPaidMarket, Depositmobi and Legacy are all accused of sending premium text messages on the devices they infect.

No one will be able to avoid the Facebook Timeline

Many Facebook users have already received the somewhat new Timeline feature. Facebook is making this change mandatory for all of its users whether they like it or not. If you’re one of the few that is still holding out, you only have a few weeks remaining to say goodbye to your cherished Facebook wall.

Facebook updated its blog post regarding Timeline earlier today. In the post, Facebook declares that “everyone” will get Timeline within the next few weeks.

The rules of engagement still apply to those who get their Timeline at the last minute. Everyone has seven days to review everything on their Timeline and make any necessary changes. After a week has passed, the Timeline will be published for everyone too see (and stalk).

Megaupload takedown forces other services to straighten up

A few days ago, the founder of Megaupload Kim Dotcom and several executives within the company were arrested and accused of being a part of a worldwide conspiracy designed to pirate copyrighted materials. The expensive assets accumulated by Dotcom and others suggest the individuals made quite a bit of money from running one of the biggest file sharing sites on the internet. The amount of attention Megauload has received has prompted other popular file sharing sites to rethink the way they do business before they suffer the same fate.

One such company is FileSonic which no longer allows users to share files with each other.

“All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled,” a notice on the site reads. “Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.”

FileServe, another file sharing service, has also limited downloads to those who initially uploaded the file in question.

Other sites such as VideoZer and VideoBB have supposedly begun deleting accounts for terms of service violations. They have also stopped supporting a rewards system for those who upload the most desired files.

I know for a fact sites such as VideoZer hosted files that were most likely not cleared by copyright holders. The services these sites used to provide probably won’t be back until the heat on Megaupload dies down.
