Carrier IQ’s alleged snooping on millions of phones has gotten the attention of the United States government. Today, Senator Al Franken of Minnesota sent a letter to Carrier IQ asking them to specifically clarify what its software does on phones. Sen. Franken asks Carrier IQ respond to his inquiry by December 14, 2011. In his letter, Sen. Google Chrome has officially knocked Firefox out of second place globally for the first time in November, according to Stat Counter. The report shows that Chrome accounted for 25.69% of the global market compared to Firefox’s 25.23% standing. RIM originally announced the BlackBerry Bold 9790 (alongside the Curve 9380) back in the middle of November and while we have seen several carriers mention the handset since then, it now looks like we have another Canadian release coming soon. The debacle surrounding Carrier IQ software is growing larger with each passing day. HP CEO Meg Whitman will announce the fate of the fledgling WebOS in the next two weeks. WebOS has been languishing in limbo since the TouchPad was discontinued shortly after it’s release this past summer. According to a report by Netbook news, the upcoming Asus Transformer Prime, complete with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and Android 3.2, will be available in the United States starting December 8th.
