Most of us in the US haven’t had the chance to see the Samsung Galaxy nexus just yet, but the FCC has seen it a few times. This most recent FCC visit from the Galaxy nexus sees the smartphone prepared to make it’s way to AT&T. The Samsung Galaxy nexus made it through the FCC sporting GSM 850/1900 and WCDMA II/IV bands which AT&T uses for its network. Aside from that, the phone appears to be the same as the Galaxy Nexus that has been in Europe for the past few weeks. AT&T hasn’t mentioned that it will carry the… Full Story » | Written by Shawn Ingram for . | Comment on this Article »
Despite recent findings that suggests Carrier IQ keeps track of everything you do on your phone, carriers and manufacturers have been quick to either deny any association with Carrier IQ, or downplay what the software does. We know AT&T and Sprint use the service in addition to HTC and Samsung. We hadn’t heard T-Mobile’s T-Mobile’s side of the story from yesterday’s reports, but T-Mobile uses Carrier IQ as well. T-Mobile took to its support forums to inform customers what it uses Carrier IQ for. Here is T-Mobile’s statement on Carrier IQ: T-Mobile utilizes the Carrier IQ diagnostic tool to troubleshoot… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

The BlackBerry PlayBook just cannot carve out a spot for itself in the highly competitive tablet market. RIM has tried to move more units by slashing the PlayBook’s price through promotional offers with retailers, and it even recently held a $99 PlayBook fire sale with its employees. Still, the PlayBook continues to die a slow and expensive death. RIM now has to eat $485 million (or $360 million after taxes) for its fiscal third quarter as a result of not selling as many PlayBooks as it expected. RIM will try to remedy poor PlayBook sales by stepping up promotions for… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

Google continues to redesign everything in its path. Next on the list is YouTube, and chances are the new design has been pushed to you already. This isn’t a mass rollout of the Cosmic Panda experiment that took place some months back. YouTube has gotten a complete facelift that brings the video content you want to see front and center. In some ways, the new YouTube is reminiscent of Facebook in that the most recent activity is in the center of the page, whereas the navigation controls are restricted to the left side of the page. The content from the… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
Competition is a great thing. It’s a big reason why the AT&T and T-Mobile acquisition is looking less likely to be approved. As long as there are multiple companies fighting over a section of the market, the more likely the customers are going to benefit from cheaper services and more options. We’re keeping that in mind while pondering what online shopping will be like if Google were to take on Amazon Prime. The Wall Street Journal says Google is in talks with retailers such as Macy’s, OfficeMax and Gap to offer a shipping service that could, in theory, offer same… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
On Thursday, Sen. Al Franken wrote a letter to Carrier IQ asking the company to respond to a number of questions regarding the collection of private user information. It’s believed Carrier IQ’s software tracks everything a person does on their phone, and reports the results back to carriers or manufacturers. Once Carrier IQ became aware of the senator’s inquiry, it notified him that it only makes the software. Carrier IQ said it’s up to carriers and phone manufacturers to install the software, and modify it to their liking. In light of this new information, Sen. Franken turned his attention to… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

The details that have been released thus far are rather sparse, however the confirmation of the upcoming release has come by way of Verizon. Well, by way of Verizon through CNET. Amazon has created an easy way for kids to create wishlists for Santa, assuming you have an iPad or Kindle Fire. The app is called Amazon Santa, and it’s a visual way for kids to create lists for Santa. For the kids the app shows a selections of over 500,000 kid-friendly toys, games, movies, video games, books, and TV shows that they can add to their list. All the kid has to do is select the items they want from the grid Amazon provides (or they can search by name), then click “Send to Santa.” Seems like a fairly straightforward… Full Story » | Written by Shawn Ingram for . | Comment on this Article »

That being said, while we are still hoping to see a bit more in terms of what to expect, it looks like the Kindle Fire is running CM7 rather nicely. According to JackpotClavin over on the xda-developers forums—“everything is running okay” and at the moment there is “only one noticeable bug.” With that, the release is… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
HTC is also distancing itself from the fiasco surrounding Carrier IQ. HTC’s devices were among the ones that were discovered to be stealthily running Carrier IQ in the background, and keeping track of everything a user does on their phone. We knew it was only a matter of time before carriers and phone makers started shifting blame onto each other and HTC has done just that. In a statement sent to The Verge, HTC says it’s not responsible for Carrier IQ being installed on its phones because HTC did not authorize its use. It then directs any inquiries one might… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
